The CoffeePot Fire and Our Mountain Cabin

In the last 5 years, 20% of the Giant Sequoias have been killed off by fire, which is the largest die off since the end of the last Ice Age.

No wonder they are working so hard to slow the fire so that they can save these beauties. Giant sequoias are among the oldest living organisms on Earth. The oldest known giant sequoia is 3,200–3,266 years old.

Definitely worth the fight.

Wow, the footage at the end is very dramatic! I hope they can get a handle on the remainder of the fire soon, and that your cabin, along with your neighbors cabins, remain safe. What a tragedy that so many of the sequoia have been lost. I've never seen them in person, just pictures, but even photos of them take my breath away with their majesty.
